A winter outing through the Keating Valley in Baker County Oregon
A beautiful winter day in the Keating Valley. This scenic valley on the Eastern edge of Baker County between the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway and the Grande Tour Scenic byway offers panoramic views of Eastern Oregon’s Wallowa, and Elkhorn mountain ranges and is just minutes from Baker City.
The valley is a popular summer destination for cyclists looking to enjoy the spacious Northeast Oregon scenery, and an easy side trip for those exploring the Hells Canyon Scenic byway who want to explore the rolling high desert landscape.
The valley also offers some great wildlife viewing opportunities and visitors are likely to see a variety of hawks, eagles, dear, and antelope.

The Sumpter Valley Railroad’s Christmas Train
One of our favorite holiday events in Baker County is the Sumpter Valley Railroad’s annual Christmas Train. An incredibly scenic train ride along the Elkhorn Scenic Byway from McEwen Station to Sumpter on a historic steam train with Santa.
