From Droitwich The BBC Broadcasts The Shipping Forecast

The BBC Radio Four Long Wave service is broadcast from landmark masts at Droitwich, Worcestershire. Despite the town being 90 miles from the nearest sandy beach, from here the signal covers Western Europe so its an ideal carrier for the forecast to be heard by the shipping around the British Isles and beyond to the Atlantic and Artic oceans. The masts themselves are clearly visible for miles around and to all drivers passing on the M5 motorway.
