A few nice space images I found:
Von Karman Cloud Vortices, Aleutian Islands (NASA, International Space Station Science, 05/23/07)

Image by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center
Von Karman cloud vortices near the Aleutian Islands are featured in this image photographed by an Expedition 15 crewmember on the International Space Station. The vortices are created by the wind encountering a barrier such as an island, changing direction and velocity and forming eddies in the wind and cloud pattern on the lee side of the island. The nadir point of the space station when the image was taken was 51.1 degrees north latitude and 178.8 degrees west longitude.

The ‘Eye’ of Issyk Kul (NASA, International Space Station, 01/26/12)

Image by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center
Editor’s note: Another amazing image captured from space by astronaut Don Pettit. I’ve posted a teaser image description, but please take a moment to look at his blog — it is WELL worth your time! blogs.nasa.gov/cm/blog/letters/posts/post_1327526569290.html
Kyrgyzstan is wedged in the mountainous wrinkles between Kazakhstan and China, created long ago when the land mass we now call India, propelled by plate tectonics, slammed into the Asian plate. Out of numerous Kyrgyz lakes, one in particular stands out—Lake Issyk Kul. When seen from orbit, Issyk Kul appears to be a giant eye, looking at us looking down at it…
