ENESIS, 1:14 —And God said, Letthere be Lights in the firmamentof the Heavens to divide the dayand the night, and let them be forSigns and for Seasons, and fordays and years. In presenting this little book to the public, westrongly urge that you investigate Planetary Laws, before condemning them. Surely, there must bea reason why these Signs have appeared on thefront page of every Almanac for hundreds of years. The writer assures anyone who will investigate thesimple instructions given in this book, that theywill be amply repaid for their efforts. Is it not reasonable to believe that the Moonwould have an influence upon vegetation, when itis an admitted scientific fact, that it does heave andpull the tides around the girdle of the Earth. There are people living in certain parts of the country, who would not think of doing anything without first consulting the Signs on the Almanac. Trusting that this little book will prove of real value and interest, I am, Astrologically yours, Prof. A

Image by Virtual Manuscript Library of Switzerland
Manuscript title: Codex Schürstab

Manuscript summary: For the facsimile reproduction the publisher picked the title “Vom Einfluß der Gestirne auf die Gesundheit und den Charakter des Menschen”, intending to emphasize the most important, astrological aspect of the work. Human and cosmos are closely connected, and the seven planets – Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury and the Moon – have an immediate effect on human beings. The manuscript, richly decorated with pictures, was commissioned by Erasmus and Dorothea Schurstab from Nuremberg (1v donation picture with coat of arms and depiction of the Crucifixion on a gold background). In 1774 Johann Jakob Zoller from Baden donated the manuscript to the City Library of Zürich, which was founded in 1629.

Origin: Nürnberg (Germany)
