Reflecting on Whiskeytown Lake
forecast

The rain! March has been a very wet month. I don’t think the sun has shown once and my desire to endure the conditions to shoot new photos has been nil. I know it won’t rain forever and I know the light before and after these storms can be phenomenal. My shot today was taken the morning after a cold storm dumped snow on us. The lake was clear as glass and the sky was great! It was a peaceful day and I’m looking forward to the forecast.

I’m ready to get out there and shoot!

Knockanaffrin Ridge
forecast

A view across to the Comeragh Plateau from the Knockanaffrin Ridge, one of the finest ridge walks in the country.

I set out for the Nire Valley this morning not very hopeful of good visibility as the forecast was for lots of cloud. As I made my way up the valley to The Gap – which separates the main Comeragh Plateau from the Knockanaffrin Ridge – the signs were not good: a bank of dark cloud obscured the upper reaches of the mountains. However, on reaching The Gap, the clouds disappeared and beautiful sunlight illuminated the uplands. So, off I went up the ridge and as I traversed it I exulted in the wonderful views it affords. It is without a doubt one of the finest mountain walks in Ireland.
